Crisis Response

In Bangladesh, gender-based violence targeting gender and sexually diverse individuals has risen alarmingly. Community members face family violence, social hostility, threats, mob attacks, targeted online campaigns, doxxing, expulsion from educational institutions, physical assault, and fabricated legal cases. This is one of the most urgent human rights crises facing our community today.

Crisis response is a core area of Noboprobhaat Foundation’s work. We respond to these emergencies in three interconnected ways.

How We Respond:
Crisis response is at the heart of what Noboprobhaat Foundation does. When a community member faces imminent danger — whether from family, neighbours, employers, online attackers, or the legal system — we mobilise to ensure they are not alone. Our response takes three forms, working together.

1. Direct Crisis Support:
When someone in our community is in immediate danger, we work to meet their most urgent needs. This may mean emergency cash to escape a violent home, the cost of shelter or relocation to a safer place, medical treatment for injuries, or legal expenses to defend against a fabricated case. This direct support is made possible by our international donors. Because funding is finite and demand is constant, we cannot help everyone who reaches out. But we try to be there when it matters most.

2. Verification and Referral:
Not every case fits our capacity, and some require expertise beyond what we can offer. In those situations, we carefully verify what has happened and, where appropriate, connect the person to trusted national and international partners who are better placed to respond. Verification protects everyone — those in crisis, our partners, and the integrity of the support system itself.

3. Prevention and Capacity Building:
Crisis response cannot only be reactive. We work to reduce vulnerability before harm occurs by training individuals, activists, and at-risk organisations in safety and security — digital, physical, legal, and psychological. We have also developed a comprehensive Safety and Security Toolkit and Guideline, freely shared with community members and allied organisations across the country.

Our Impact Since November 2024:
We launched this programme in November 2024. In the months since, we have:

  1. Trained 30 at-risk organisations in safety and security.
  2. Trained 122 activists, community members, and organisers.
  3. Provided emergency funding to 15 individuals in crisis.
  4. Developed 1 comprehensive Safety and Security Toolkit and Guideline.
  5. Supported 1 person facing legal action.
  6. Referred 3 cases to trusted partner organisations.

Behind every number is a person whose safety, dignity, and future we have worked to protect. This work will continue for as long as our community needs it.

Who We Support:
This is an emergency programme, not a general humanitarian initiative. We provide support exclusively to gender-diverse individuals in Bangladesh facing gender-based violence and crisis. We do not provide general donations, scholarships, food aid, prizes, or education support.

How to Request Support:
If you are facing a crisis as a member of the gender-diverse community in Bangladesh and need our support, please contact us at contact@noboprobhaat.org.

To verify the situation, you will be asked to submit relevant documentation. All communications are treated with strict confidentiality. Your safety and privacy are our highest priority.

Please Note:
Reaching out to us does not guarantee support. Our response depends on several factors — including the availability of funding, whether your situation meets our criteria, the urgency of need, and verification of the case. As a small organisation, our capacity is limited, and we may not be able to respond immediately. In situations of extreme emergency, please first contact people you trust for immediate safety.

If you are in immediate physical danger, please also contact local emergency services or reach trusted friends and family while contacting us.

Support Our Work:
Crisis response is funded by the support of our international donors and partners. Every contribution strengthens our ability to respond to community members facing life-threatening situations. If you would like to support this work or partner with us, please reach out.
