Rights Violations and Discrimination in Bangladesh’s Educational Institutions (2023–2026)
This monitoring report examines patterns of discrimination, harassment, institutional exclusion, privacy violations, and human rights concerns within Bangladesh’s educational institutions between November 2023 and October 2026. Based on 15 documented incidents across universities, colleges, and student residences, the report highlights how allegations concerning individuals’ personal identities and private conduct have resulted in intimidation, forced questioning, disciplinary actions, removal from student accommodation, and involvement of law enforcement authorities. It also documents 11 organised campaigns challenging inclusion and equal rights within educational settings.
The findings reveal a concerning shift in the nature and frequency of documented violations, particularly following the political changes of August 2024. The report identifies recurring patterns of student-led accusations, unauthorised searches of personal communications, coerced statements, and institutional disciplinary measures, raising serious questions about privacy, due process, personal safety, and equal access to education. Through comparative analysis, documented case studies, and an examination of relevant legal and institutional frameworks, the report highlights gaps in accountability and student protection. It concludes with recommendations for educational institutions, regulatory authorities, government stakeholders, and international partners to strengthen institutional safeguards, prevent discrimination and arbitrary punishment, and promote safer, more inclusive, and rights-respecting learning environments.
