Abstract: Unlearning Norms, Challenging Power — Grassroots Youth Movements Against Anti-Gender Backlash in Bangladesh

This abstract explores how deeply rooted social constructions of masculinity and femininity reinforce unequal power relations, exclusion, and anti-gender backlash against rural gender-diverse and marginalized youth in Bangladesh. Drawing on Noboprobhaat Foundation’s grassroots initiatives, it highlights community-led approaches to challenging harmful gender norms through counter-narratives, documentation of rights violations, evidence-based advocacy, and cross-movement solidarity. It demonstrates how grassroots experiences can inform collective action and strengthen movements for gender justice and social inclusion.
